Utility Worker (Casual, Call-In; Non-Exempt) 02/04/11

Under direct supervision of Environmental Services Coordinator, performs a variety of simple and routine manual laboring and utility tasks involving light to heavy physical effort. Responsible for distribution of materials, equipment, and supplies to designated departments or areas, assists other semi-skilled workers in offsite transporting of large equipment and/or furnishings. Performs custodial and janitorial tasks as necessary, cares for and maintains all landscaped areas, parking areas, loading dock, facility perimeter, mechanical and housekeeping rooms, and lanai areas.

May occasionally assist with the weekly or monthly walk through of facility, checking and testing life and safety equipment as well as the general building as necessary. Performs simple/routine minor checks and reviews of facility equipment as assigned and refers observations to appropriate maintenance staff.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    -Minimum high school education or equivalent.
    -Patience, flexibility, and tact required.
    -Ability to work independently without supervision required.
  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    -1 to 2 years utility or laborer experience preferred.
    -Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, hostile resident, family member, or visitor.
    -Must coordinate own maintenance/janitorial activities with nursing staff to ensure residents are not in immediate work area.
    -Must be conscientious and frugal (not wasting supplies) and use common sense.
    -Must have integrity and respect resident’s rights and property.
